Social Development is a concept employed by major governmental and non-governmental institutions and organizations. It subsumes a plethora of measures and describes a direction of developmental strategies that puts people at the center. Likewise, sustainability is a central concept in contemporary societal discourse, research and development. Students will read texts from different disciplines to gain in-depth knowledge about the central concepts Social Development and Sustainability and most importantly learn how to deconstruct and re-think them. In the second half of the semester, students will work on cases and apply what they have learned to a specific case. Along with deepening their general understanding of the concepts Social Development and Sustainability, students also learn how to do scientific research, how to build an argument and how to carve out a suitable research question.
