Social Responsibility and Sustainability in Engineering – Interview with Prof. Dr. Leicht-Scholten in RWTHinsight
What is the social responsibility of engineers and which competencies besides technical expertise are required to address corresponding challenges? In a recent interview, Professor Carmen Leicht-Scholten, head of the Research Group Gender and Diversity in Engineering (GDI), talks about social responsibility, diversity and equal opportunities in engineering. In order to promote socially responsible and sustainable technological developments, involving society and politics into research and innovation processes is a key factor. Professor Leicht-Scholten characterises the concept of "Responsible Research and Innovation" (RRI) as a comprehensive strategy which can be applied to include a diverse set of stakeholders into research and innovation projects in scientific as well as businees contexts.
