On Wednesday, April 19th, we had the pleasure of welcoming Professor Dr. Christoph Schneider to our Leonardo event "Sustainability and Transformation as an Opportunity and Challenge for Society" in collaboration with FH Aachen and katHo Aachen.

As a renowned climatologist and Vice President for Research at the Humboldt University of Berlin, he provided a profound and differentiated insight into the complexity of the climate crisis. In his keynote "In the magical pentagon of the climate crisis: evidence, urgency, efficiency, sufficiency, consistency... and why it's actually not about climate but sustainability," he illustrated that the climate crisis can only be tackled through sustainable development. Thus, sustainability as a whole is probably the most important and biggest challenge for the global community.

This was underlined by a quote from Ban Ki-moon on the ratification of the Paris Agreement and the 2030 Agenda: "United they stand - divided they fall!" The lecture by Professor Jeffrey Sachs, the former special advisor to Ban Ki-moon, at the Mercator Climate Lecture 2016 further illustrates this connection.

We thank Professor Dr. Christoph Schneider for his inspiring thoughts and the lively exchange with the participants!
