The course “Discovering Innovation - Project Work Beyond Engineering” of the module “Expanding Engineering Limits: Culture, Diversity and Gender - In Practice” offers students the possibility to put into practice, what they learned in the courses of “Expanding Engineering Limits: Culture, Diversity and Gender - Lecture Part” and “Reshaping Engineering Culture with Design Thinking”.
Within the framework of the course, students learn the basics of entrepreneurship. The aim is to develop a business plan that takes up the project idea of the concepts developed in the Design Thinking course.
Intended Learning Outcomes
The students gain knowledge with regard to the basics of social entrepreneurship, the business canvas, the steps to create a business plan and different creativity methods.
The acquired competencies beyond technological expertise rate among the most demanded key competencies in industry and generating innovations is a driving factor for economic success.
Therefore, the course allows students to develop tangible application-oriented projects basing on their reflections concerning gender, diversity and culture in engineering and their knowledge about innovation generation with Design Thinking and the integration of diversity perspectives.
Credit points can be acquired by contributing to a group work, which is completed with a project presentation and a written elaboration of a business plan.
