Carmen Leicht-Scholten talks at the Theater Aachen

February 9, 2019

On February 9, 2019, Carmen Leicht-Scholten discusses with the audience about the imagination of gender and roles in the society and how it restricts personal freedom.

"I do not want to fight for it."

Discussion with the audience about the production ‘’Momentum’’ with Prof. Dr. Carmen Leicht-Scholten.

In "Momentum“ two politicians wrestle to preserve their political influence and are confronted with the limits of their social roles: Head of state Meinrad hides his depression and tries to keep up the facade. His wife Ebba wants to take over his political office and asks for his support.

One politician does not show a weakness, one politician´s wife supporting her husband alongside – how firm are social expectations of a role and a gender and in what way do these expectations limit freedom? How do these affect our ethical values and what happens to our understanding of politics? We will discuss this topic and other questions after the performance with the political scientist Prof. Dr. Leicht-Scholten from Institut für Gender und Diversity in den Ingenieurwissenschaften at RWTH Aachen.
