Teaching skills on socially sustainable technology design honored across faculty lines

On June 20, 2022, as part of the twelfth edition of the Talk Lehre conference format, the teaching award in the sustainability category was presented for the first time, to Prof. Carmen Leicht-Scholten, Bridge Professorship Gender and Diversity in Engineering. The teaching award is intended to recognize her commitment and outstanding work in teaching.

Professor Carmen Leicht-Scholtens is committed to not only providing students with factual knowledge about frameworks such as Sustainable Development Goals, technology assessment, and the responsibilities of budding scientists, but also to empowering them to think and make responsible decisions for a better future.

I am very pleased to receive this award because it is a great recognition of the work that my entire team and I have invested over the past few years in developing innovative teaching and learning concepts and implementing them in teaching. I am particularly pleased that the proposal was submitted by students from a wide range of faculties. This illustrates that students across all faculty boundaries have a great interest in embracing not only the economic and ecological dimensions of sustainability, but also the social ones.

Professor Leicht-Scholten offers students the opportunity to take an in-depth look at sustainability and social responsibility. She manages to inspire students from different backgrounds in her teaching and emphasizes the great commitment and interest of the students.

Receiving the teaching award in the sustainability category is a great honor for Professor Leicht-Scholten: “Therefore, I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart, also on behalf of my team, for the award and I am looking forward to using the prize money to develop another new innovative teaching concept.”
