The DigiFellowship, a joint initiative of RWTH Aachen University, the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, the Stifterverband and ETS, has been supporting innovative approaches in digital university teaching since 2020. For the year 2023, the Fellowship of the Bridging Professorship Gender and Diversity in Engineering under the direction of Univ.-Prof. Dr. Carmen Leicht-Scholten was awarded for the realisation of the extended Flipped Classroom concept for the reflection of diversity perspectives in the context of the inter-faculty lecture "Engineering Sciences and Society".

The lecture "Engineering & Society" provides students with fundamental knowledge of issues and perspectives in the context of sustainability and social responsibility. The students deal with these topics and their implications in technical and engineering professional fields. The flipped classroom concept, which combines blended learning and independent learning, encourages students to actively engage, reflect and discuss. The integration of diverse teaching and learning methods not only promotes professional understanding, but also the development of diversity competence. Independent reflection, which takes place parallel to the learning process, deepens the understanding of the lecture material. In the summer semester 2023, the concept was expanded and adapted to the needs of different learning types in order to enable students to acquire comprehensive competences.

Univ. Prof. Dr. Carmen Leicht-Scholten expressed her delight about the award: "We are extremely pleased about the DigiFellowship 2023 and the opportunity to implement our expanded flipped classroom concept. By integrating innovative teaching and learning methods, we want to ensure that our students are not only well educated in terms of their subject matter, but also in terms of diversity and social responsibility, and that they are prepared for their future tasks as engineers.
